FRIDAY 18th OCTOBER 2019
OKA VANGA + SUPPORT
From Hertfordshire, Oka Vanga are Angela Meyer & Will Cox, an award winning Folk & Roots duo. Whether singing, playing guitar, ukulele or mandolin, their relaxed banter and gift for story telling makes their live performances both interesting and memorable.
Originally from Cape Town in South Africa, Angie has considerable vocal and songwriting talents. The musical synergy between Angie and Will was instant, and as a highly skilled guitar duo performing at acoustic clubs and festivals Oka Vanga was born and they quickly caught the attention of the folk-roots community.
Their music is a melting pot of influences, and they describe themselves as acoustic folk-world music. This is expanded on their website to "..a high octane guitar duo that combines instrumental Folk, percussive Brazilian rhythms, acoustic freestyle and North African music, to create music that is both rhythmically powerful and melodically rich."
Angela and Will play steel string guitars, but use very different techniques (classical guitar finger-style playing and plectrum). These differences are mirrored in their musical tastes, which stretch from Angela’s classical and flamenco styles to Will’s heavy rock and blues.
Their releases, Tales of Eyam (EP) , Dance of the Copper Trail and PIlgrim (LP) have all received critical acclaim.
